MISSION UMBRA

Our last flight titled Mission Umbra aimed to film the solar eclipse that occurred on April 8, 2024. A rare opportunity to capture exceptional images from a completely unique perspective of the moon's shadow cast on the surface of the earth, moving at more than 4000 km/h on our planet.

The mission was a success, not only on a technical level but also on a human level. Two and a half months of human adventure which ended when Dorothy gently landed in the mountains of Maine in the United States. It flew over the Mégantic region in Quebec (Canada) for 2 hours 20 minutes, reaching a height of more than 34,000 m, and brought us exceptional images thanks to its 4 on-board cameras.

The Moon's shadow

At an altitude of 34 kilometers in the stratosphere, Dorothy captured this exceptional image of the Moon's shadow moving across the Earth at over 4000 kilometers per hour.  The shadow is 175 kilometers in diameter.

THE VR EXPERIENCE

With the footage we captured during the solar eclipse, we created a 360° VR experience. In this 12-minute immersive journey, you soar above the Earth, witnessing the Moon's shadow move across its surface. Guided by Dorothy, the narrator, you are taken through a blend of science, art, and poetry, making for a truly beautiful and emotional experience.

The film was presented to the festival "L'ASTRO FEST" and "FESTIVAL DU NOUVEAU CINEMA" in Montréal in 2024. The feedback we received from the public was overwhelmingly positive.
